Assistance

Several years ago, I shot with a man who had an interesting firearm. It was composed of a 1911 frame, and used 1911 magazines. It was chambered in 45 ACP. The upper unit resembled a carbine in that it had a barrel approximately 16 inches long and was semi-automatic in operation. If memory serves me correctly, it was quite accurate at 50 feet.

Can anyone fill in the gaps of my memory in terms of what type of fire arm it was, manufacturer, current availability, and other pertinent information?

Thank you for your time.
