During the late 80s early 90s the Coleman mantles lasted one night and the next morning were either broken or "cracked" or full of holes. They required replacement. And therefore I put away my Coleman lanterns for about twenty years or so. Then recently I rebuilt a Powerhouse lantern, used Peerless brand mantles and all is good. The Peerless brand seems to last in comparison to those Coleman mantles used about thirty years ago.

A gunsmith I am not.
