I have a Security Six and a GP100, and I really can't pick a favorite between the two.

I got my gun back yesterday and went to the range today. The first 4 pulls of the trigger slowly in double action resulted in clicks instead of bang. I had WW value packs, Fiocchi and S&B 45acp ammo. Gun is just bad! It's on its way back again and I am requesting a refund. No more 45LC/45acp Redhawks for me. The packin slip said they fired 30rds of Federal 45acp.
On details it outlined the stuff send in with the gun which included Scope Rings. This model does not come with scope rings nor is it mached for them. I did try some LC and gun worked with them. I put the Redhawk up and fired the remaining 45acp in my Sig P220 and 1911 without a single misfire. Gun did better with moon clips in single action for obvious reasons.

My experience with Ruger DA revolvers is that after they discontinued the Security Six in the mid-1980s everything has gone downhill.
I find this difficult to disagree with.

Just bought my third GP-100 last week...a .327 Federal. This is in addition to the .357 stainless 4" that I have had for probably 15 years and a 10mm MC I bought a few months ago... No problems with any of them.

Got to range today.

All 45ACP handloads first time bang

2 of 6 WWB first time FTF in two separate moonclips went bang on second try

I suspect tolerance stacking. Ammo at one end of tolerance range, WWB ammo at the other.

Not an issue for me as primary use will be with 45 Colt.

Now, just need to practice.

Best to all

Falmike I am very happy you are pleased with yours but I am not please with mine in the least. My gun had failure to fire out of the box and when it returned it had the exact same problem but the single action was better. This gun has spent more time in the mail and at Ruger than it has at my house. It has a 46% failure rate with FACTORY Fiocchi, S&B and WW value pack. I put the Ruger back in the range bag and finished all the ammo in a Sig P220 and a 1911 without a single misfire. No more Redhawks and no more Rugers for me. I just hope they honor my request and give me a refund. I had trouble with my last 3 Rugers. I took a beating on one and one I fixed myself after Ruger sent me the part. I bought the gun to be used primarly with 45acp. There is just too many options to have to settle for a substandard pistol in my humble opinion.

I wish you the best. It was not fun having to send mine in. First time ever and not a good feeling.

I wonder if the Ruger moonclips contribute to the issue. Due to there dedign, they are springier than regular clips. Maybe they flex a small amount when the hammer strikes the primers??? I think There are standard style moon. Lips out there for it. Maybe they would solve issue.

In the end though, for competition, S&W is the way to go.

You folks are the best! Some suggested Federal ammo because they have softer primers and I understand this but to me it's like buying a new car and being told you can run one brand of gas. I was using fresh "Factory" ammo. One of the Ruger reps. give me the Federal ammo spill. I just can't buy into one brand of ammo deal. Bowen Custom can get it up and running for $400.00 + dollars. Replacing firing pins, trimming hammers, transfer bar adjustments and if all that fails us a "HEAVIER" hammer spring. I just want a simple refund and I will move on to a different brand.

Just got off the phone with Ruger and they offered another gun or refund, I took the refund. Can't ask anymore of anyone or any company. They stood behind there product.
