Scoville, thanks for posting such detailed photos of this unusual variation of our favorite platform. $1,100 for this pistol with provenance is an absolute steal IMHO. I love it!

Scoville:

I don't know if you are still looking for info on your Gold Cup or not. I was looking through some of my reference materials today and noticed that there is a Technical Manual which covers a variety of pistols, including the Gold Cup. If you still have the pistol you might want to try to locate a copy.

It is TM 9-1005-206-14P/3 entitled "Operator's, Organizational, DS and GS Maintenance Repair Parts and Special Tools List". Published October 1971. It covers seven pistols including the Pistol, Caliber .45, Automatic, Colt, Gold Cup National Match (1005-591-8046).

Did you ever get a factory letter on it? If so, perhaps you could let us know what it revealed.

Regards,
Charlie

Great pistol. I like the pre-70 NM's and own 3.

I would definitely get the Colt letter. It would be interesting to know if it was purchased directly from Colt by the marksmanship unit , or from a local gun shop.

Colt says it takes them 90 to 120 days to get a letter. I don't think they will charge you until they get to it.

Glad you unearthed this thread and posted the letter. Guess your NM just went up in value, with both a Colt and an Air Force letter. Congratulations, very nice pistol.

Did you shoot it, or is it a safe queen / display piece ?

A treasure...for sure. I would likely not fire this pistol. Well, maybe I would. BUT I would not fire it a lot. Maybe just one magazine full. LOL
