Anyone have Nighthawk build them a gun?

After owning quite a few pistols over the years I just "ordered" my first one. A Nighthawk FireHawk double stack 9mm IOS. It checked all my boxes, figured it was worth a 10 week wait and the extra $.

Anyone care to share their experience when having Nighthawk build you a custom gun? Quoted vs actual lead time? What gun and when? Overall satisfaction.

Thanks!

I really like the FireHawk. Would love to order one in Stainless. Did you mean 10 months instead of 10 weeks? I just got a Wilson Combat X-Tac Carry Comp and would love to compare it to the FireHawk. The double stack option is not available from Wilson Combat or I would def consider it because I like my WC EDC X9. Without actually holding the NH Custom double stack I’m not sure if I’d like the feel of the squarer grip. Let us know when you get it.

Different class of guns, the firehawk is a large type gun and bulky compared to the carry comp. They don't target the same role

I was quoted 10 weeks. I even confirmed once more before ordering and asked for a realistic lead time, and again was told 10 weeks. I ordered about a week before shot show.

Will do!

Wow, did they have to source rare parts, attributing to the one year wait?

Thanks Stiker, Thats exactly the kind of feed back I appreciate from this forum. I wish I had a NHC dealer near me that I could see touch the FireHawk in person. I'd hate to pay that much for a build and then be disappointed.

So comparing single stacks is the frame just bigger on the NHC vs. WC comp?

Hello Young,
Actually, I have several Nighthawks that were built for me. I just built a stainless Firehawk in 9mm. It is very accurate and I love it. I may build one like you just ordered a little later, after all, that is going to be over 5 grand for a double stack and red dot. It may be worth it though. I am sure you will be happy with yours.

Thanks for the reply! I'm curious what lead time they quoted you, when did you have it built and how long did it actually take. Sounds like you're satisfied.

I've owned a bunch of NH's but first one built to order. Yeah, with an extra extractor and all blacked out, it's around $5500. I'm pretty positive I'll love it.

You may want to Google "Single stack 1911 vs Double stack 2011" but the slides are pretty much the same size, the frames are larger to accept a double stack magazine, doubling the capacity, generally. Double stacks also usually have a light rail.

It may be tough to find a double stack NH around at LGS but you can probably find an STI 2011 that will be almost identical to the NH. At least you can see if the general size fits your hands.

It was easier for me to order such a pricey gun as I've had numerous STI double stacks and know what I'm up against.

Good luck!

I worked closely with NH on this T4, DLC slide over SS and I sent them Wilson parts for the build, trigger, Slide-release and safety.

I really like the NH guys, they are easy going and laid back to work with and it's a more personal experience than Wilson Combat.

They quoted 4-6 months and it took about 11 weeks.

They were also incredibly helpful when I bought a Counselor in a Pawn Shop and it had a magazine release issue and they sent me a new magazine release (free of charge) to resolve the problem.

Hey, I appreciate the reply. Great T4! Sounds like you just got my dream carry gun. I handled the Counselor last week but I just couldn't make a move since I just ordered the FireHawk. How ya like it?

I love the T4, but I like the Counselor better, the Counselor is an amazing carry gun

I understand the difference between the single and double stack. To clarify does anyone have both the WC carry comp and NHC FireHawk in 9mm to compare side by side?

OP, have you received your pistol yet?
I placed an order for a NHC Classic the first week of January and was quoted 10 weeks. Still waiting.

Curious how yours is going?

No word yet. About 5-6 weeks in I called to ask how many mags came with the gun as I was buying a dozen or so. At that point I did ask if the 10 week lead time was still feasible as I was considering grabbing another range gun to hold me over if it was going to be an additional 2 months or something. (Since I sold my Glocks) They said they would check and call me back. Did not get a call back or email.

Couldn't help myself and kindly inquired a second time by phone after 12 weeks. Same story. No call back or reply.

In the meantime, the Staccato XC (A close comparison to the Firehawk I ordered), has been much better than I anticipated. Hmm....

Nice build, I like subtle radius from front strap to trigger guard. I spoke with them about a Colt build, and agree with your experience of easy going and laid back. Looking forward to sending off my parts.

I have one. They were very accommodating to the changes/upgrades I requested and the finished product is breathtaking. If I have one complaint it's that communication wasn't very good on their part. But, that's not going to stop me from ordering again.

Yeah, no doubt they make great guns, I've had a few. But, making a good product only gets you part of the way to being a good company in 2020. I was quoted 10 weeks, it's been 22 with zero correspondence from them. No worries on my end, bought an Atlas Helios and already have 3k through it. Atlas's service has been exemplary, and the gun is incredible.

If you don't mind me asking who is your sales person @ NHC? I have had work done on a Colt and ordered a Talon 2 direct from NHC. In both instances the communication has been very good. The Talon took about 2 weeks longer than estimated but the problem might have been me, I was visiting Arkansas and made arrangements to stop by NHC. They waited to send the Talon out for finish until after my visit so I could put the first rounds through it. I would call and talk with Bob about your build and ask him to check on it. Of course your build might have been impacted by Covid also, strange times we are living in.

Tim was my sales guy. I already inquired 3 times by phone and email to multiple people there with no replies in 5 months, I'm good. Covid? Maybe, but I ordered in January and they post new builds going out almost daily on IG. Huge blessing in disguise, Atlas is phenomenal!

Yup, no question they make great guns. ... But, your take on accepting their poor service is why so many gun companies still get away with it.
