RCBS Shellholder for 380 acp Not Available?

FWIW - Iím still new to reloading.

I saw Midway had some 380 acp bullets, so I decided to order a die set and get 1000. After the order it dawned on me that I probably need a shellholder for my RCBS turret press ó (I mustíve been thinking I could use the shellholder I have for 38 supers and now see it would be too loose).

I checked the RCBS web site and its Shellholder #10 for 380 acp - but I canít find it anywhere online and RCBSís site shows it as ďunavailableĒ.

Are there other shellholders that work just as well for 380 acp? I did find an extended one, but Iím not sure itís what I should get or if it will fit on my press.

Most brands are universal. Look at Lyman, Hornady? Or maybe even Lee.

Shell holder for .223/5.56 rifle will work for the .380 auto. Hornady's tenth reloading manual lists a #16 shell holder for the .380 Auto; the only other cartridge listed in the manual that uses that holder is a TCM .22 cartridge, which is a proprietary cartridge made from a .223 case. I tried a .380 brass in my .223 holder, it fits perfectly. A 9mm should also work, but the .380 case will be a tad loose in it.

Don't use a 9mm shell holder unless you want to rip the rim off the 380 brass.

Here's a cross reference chart.

Looking at that chart all makers have the same shellholder number for 223 and 380.

Lee = 4
Hornady = 16
Lyman = 26
Redding = 10
RCBS = 10

So if I can’t find an RCBS #10 will any of the others fit on my RCBS turret press?

Suggest you stay away from Hornady. The one Hornady shell holder I bought for my Lee setup was a tad oversize (proprietary BS?) Redding worked great.

Yes, they should fit. Lee will diffidently fit.

Yep, get a Lee kit. #4 works for .380. Most shell holders are unversal and work in 99% of presses.

I have a Lee kit to cover 90% of all rounds!

Just get a set of the Lee shellholders.
Use the 223/556.
The tricky one is the 32acp.
Seat a primer? No ruin a rim.

Only in single station presses.

Most multi station presses us proprietary disks.

Now that we know "Lee will diffidently fit", whew!

Getting shell holders from different sources creates its own challenges since the numbers don't carry over and some are not marked as to the manufacturer.

I found this out the hard way!

Hornady shell holders have a larger center hole diameter than RCBS (most of my reloading equipment is RCBS). I bought a Hornady case trimmer and found that my RCBS shell holders were not compatible with the arbor of the trimmer. Not a big deal, but I ended up buying several additional shell holders for all the calibers I load.
