Purely for fun and since I have some old armor laying around I decided to see if a 5.5 inch and 4 inch gun could go through some armor, totally informal and useless info since the panel was just hanging in the air but interesting all the same. I am going to do this again with 1600 fps solids and see what happens in that velocity range....I'm thinking it will go right though considering how close this relatively slow 255 stuff got and how much it deformed.

I load cast Lyman 452460 SWC over 9gr Alliant Power Pistol. If I remember right I was getting 1050-1100 fps. I did load 10gr of Power Pistol but the primers showed overpressure signs.

I was firing these .45 Super loads in my S&W 645, it is a heavy pistol and can take the .45 Super easy enough.

I think the 185gr .460 Roland would zip through that panel. I don't recall the fps on the light Roland loads but they are moving!!

I'm going at it again with the back panel with 1400fps 185s and some extreme defenders doing the same at 120g to see what happens, if that doesn't work I'll break out the .460 loads

Do you happen to have Chrono speeds on those .45 supers?

I ask because I've got some Underwood 255 grain +Ps that I've been meaning to see what they run in my 5" just for fun.

They run great in both my Remington double stack and Kimber Warrior, and I do like them for woods carry.

Be interesting to see how close they are to the Supers

I would help if the vest had some sort of support added behind the vest ? Like 150lb of supported weight and a pork ham between the vest , even a block of clay show to show energy transfer . 255gr still may not pass thru but may cause serious damage to tissue and bones like the sternum , ribs and lung in real life . As it is ballistic vest hanging from tape does not show much of a test . I doubt a 1oz lead slug would do major damage to the vest ether but probable would kill the person wearing it .

I will see if I can ask the owner if I can have a private session to set up a table, kinda already had one recently for zero light shooting so I don't want to be too pushy
