ProMag

I went shooting today in a local canyon I have two mags for my RI 1911 45 ACP the OME that came with it and a ProMag they both feed perfectly. Now the ProMag will not hold the slide open when the Mag is empty like the OME does anyone know what may cause this?

Promag is known for economy over quality. It could be either the spring or the follower.

IIRC, they have a warranty, but the new mag will probably have the same short lifespan, so if they don't offer to pay shipping, I would just write it off as a learning experience.

Take your slide off of your pistol, Reinstall the barrel, slide stop and insert the empty malcontent magazine & see it the magazine follower Is pushing up on the slide stop. If it is, reinstall the slide and everything including the empty magazine . Then hand cycle the slide to see if it will lock back. If it does when you ride the slide forward, try slingshotting the slide to see if it overrides the slide stop with the magazine empty,

Depends on what the magazines for.

For range use, Chip McCorrmick shooting star flat bottom 8 round magazines.
For carry I use the Chip McCorrmick Match grade & extra Power flat bottom 8 round magazines.

All the Pro-Mag magazines I have will not lock the slide back. I have a couple for my 2 Firstar pistols since that is about the only choice for them.

I disassembled the pistol for cleaning and it worked fine locks the slide back after the last round. I later added the had to modify the ProMag base after I added a Klonimus 1911 Magwell - Electroless Bushing mounted magazine well so I need a Mag with the baseplate that works or sight Mod to it. works great now and locks the slide back after the last round.
