I prefer dark on dark overall. Blue over stainless, especially on 1911s I like. FDE slide over dark frame is nice. Stainless slide over dark frame is one that will make me pass on a gun unless it's at a steal price. Then I'll be a little suspect.

I can handle stainless okay in revolvers, but I don't care aesthetically for stainless guns. My late saddle pard was pretty much the opposite. It worked out. I prefered blue and walnut, he preferred stainless. I preferred my women a little trimmer and he liked em solid. We appreciated the other's taste enough to be genuine in liking something, but not so much we would have butted heads over it. LOL

I dislike guns with a silver slide on a black frame, or any other color combination thereof. The slide has to be the same color or darker than the frame.
Avoid the temptation to replace everything on your brand-new 1911 just to make it "better". Know what you're changing out and why. You may spend a lot of money fixing things that weren't broken to begin with. Shoot at least 500 rounds through it first, then decide what you don't like and want to improve. Regarding vintage 1911s, pre-1970 pistols are highly collectible in original, unaltered condition and should NEVER be refinished or modified as it completely ruins their monetary value.

I like all the same color -- but -- i love COlt's current way of doing it. Flats somewhat polished (more like wirebrushed) and the rounds completely matte. Stunning contrast.
