I really like my base model R1. Based on my experience you are getting a nice serviceable 1911 for under $500. I also picked up a used MilSpec for under $500 and am happy with it also. My R1 is plenty accurate even out to 50 feet which is about as far as I shoot any of my pistols.

Me too! I have quite a few guns to take to the range but I take my Carry Commander most of the time. It is a very nice looking gun and everything on it has worked perfectly.

I love my GI, and it's stainless as well. It was 584 out the door in 2010 or so. I think it was one of the last to be made, as they pretty much cut that gun a short time later.

The new hotness is the so called Springfield Defender 1911 in parkerized. It's the same gun as the Milspec, but a no frills model. One gun, one mag, one pair of grips, and a cardboard box.
