New RIA Purchase

Just joined the increasing ranks of RIA owners.

Yesterday I bought a brand new Rock Island Fullsize 1911, the Rock Island Pro Match Ultra 5 in .45 acp.

It has an adjustable rear sight, a red fiber optic front sight, skeletonized hammer, beavertail grip safety, long black trigger with lightening holes, lowered and flared ejection port, full length guide rod, and ambidextrous thumb safety.

I was initially debating in my mind whether to get the Pro Match Ultra or the GI. I figured I will have more use for the upgraded features of the Pro Match Ultra especially the sight. The only thing I want to do to the Pro Match Ultra is to change the ambidextrous thumb safety to a one side safety.

The features, the fit and finish, is quite astounding for a production level 1911 of that price range.

Having owned 13 1911s from Colt, Kimber, and Springfield, I think this new purchase will give me satisfaction and pleasure equal to the others.

I will be able to take actual possession of the piece after 10 days, as I am in the prison state of California.

Yeah..your gonna love it.I have the 52000 and it's well worth the $1000 I spent for it.No issues at all in 600 rounds and all 3 mags I have work perfectly.I think this gun can shoot better than I can.

Glad everyone’s happy with their RIAs. Keep buying, we’ll make more.

That would be a hand grenade waiting to happen ! 10 mm in a 3/4 scale 1911 built for .380 ACP......... KABOOOOM..!

Unless you were referring to the BBR 3.10, of course, that would be fun.

If you buy online there will be a transfer fee charged by your local gun store. Better to just start building a relationship with an LGS. Guns will probably cost the same as guns online since they will be inclined to give a repeat customer a break.

OP, I have the same gun. check out post 4 in this thread for how it shoots, with decent/good ammo. Pic 4 at 75 feet; 3 of 4 in 1.5"!

My FFL/dealer couldn't get the 9mm right now so I ordered the 45.
I also learned that 45 ammo is more readily available than 9mm at this time.

I just purchased my third RIA. I picked up a full size in 9mm to go with my older full size 45 Tactical Model and my Compact 45.

Ordered my stainless one side GI style thumb safety and regular sear pin from Fusion Guns few weeks back. When the parts arrive, I will have a project on hand.

I wished they made the 5'' model in 45acp with the bushingless bull barrel.
I have the 5'' in 10mm and its a tack driver.

I've been very impressed with the 51680 I bought a few weeks ago. The 22 TCM satisfies wFhen I'm jonesing for a real blaster without risking the Automag or the Coonan. Fit and accuracy are outstanding for the money. What's even more surprising is that the 9mm barrel shoots to the same POA. My boss was also impressed with it.

I sent the pistol to Armscor customer service in Pahrump, Nevada.

Several issues I had were: a too tight extractor that resist removing for routine maintenance. A " dragging " feeling when racking the slide like there is a momentary hesitation. Conversion of the ambidextrous thumb safety to a one side GI style safety.

I could have done the thumb safety conversion myself, but I'd rather have the factory do it.

Armscor CS was stellar. They fixed and addressed all issues and tuned the trigger pull. Racking the slide now is as smooth as butter, trigger pull was clean and crisp at around 4 lbs.

I replaced the factory FLGR to a Wilson stainless GI style guide rod and plug. The gun is now set up EXACTLY as I want.

I replaced the original factory wood grips over the weekend. The original grips looks cheesy, thick, and rough.

I ordered a darker shade of Cocobolos from CDNN. The gun looked much better and dare I say, more upscale than original.
