Commander length 9mm

I'm interested in a commander length 9mm. It seems that many folks tend to steer away from 9mm in the shorter length due to reliability issues. What had been your experience with Nighthawk.

Thanks

A bob marvel or shadowhawk commander in 9MM is as reliable as you are going to get. Or any other NH model model in nine. I wouldn't be hesitant to carry either or in this case a 38S

I have a T3 and a Heinie Signature in 9mm commanders as well as a officer T4 in 9mm. Out of the 7 NH's I own, the 9's have been the most reliable. In my opinion, you can not go wrong with a NH.

I'm having some slight issues with my new Kestrel 9mm commander....granted it's the first few rounds through it. First range session was probably 100 rounds and probably 8 failure to feeds. Granted, brand new gun and magazines not broken in yet. I've since bought a few Tripp mags and some SA mags to try to see if the Kestrel just doesn't like the WC mags, but have yet to get to the range again. I've also heard that the 9mm mags like to be seated for a few weeks with rounds in them to help with the new springs which I've done with the Wilsons.

Anyway, I'll report back when I get to the range again.

My Marvel 9mm works perfectly with the factory supplied metalform mags. It's worth noting though that it has the full government length slide travel, so not exactly a true commander.

Shadowhawk commander is a super gun and No up charge for 9mm. Marvel is great gun but a $200 up charge for nine. I think Shadowhawk is best commander they make but you can't go wrong with any of them. A good dealer like Jerry Hammond can be helpful with a order and save a little money

Do Nighthawk 9mms have ramped barrels like most makers or regular feed ramps in the frame like Colt's Commanders?

All of our 9mm barrels will be the ramped style. The same can be said of our .38 supers and 10mms.

Thanks for the info.

NighthawkRep, I understand the rationale for a ramped barrel on a lightweight frame, what's the reasoning behind it on a steel framed 9mm?

Update on my Kestrel if anyone is interested. 100 more rounds and many failure to feeds again using 3 different types of mags (Wilson, Tripp & Chips). Next is different ammo, if that doesn't work then back to the mother ship I guess. Disappointing, I so want to love this gun.

Kadonny, I would be sending it back ASAP and not mess around any longer if it were me. Bob Reeves will get it right for you and it most likely won't take too long.

Shadowhawk commander, as well as government model. Approaching 10,000 rounds on each. No problems whatsoever. Highly recommended.

Thank you very much Bob, let me put through new ammo first to rule that out, then if I still have the problem we can get it back for service. Thanks for reaching out.

New update. Ran probably 180 rounds through it last night with a mix of mags. Mix of WWB and Blazer brass ammo. I only had 2 FTFs but 1 was me pushing on the mag I think, so that leaves 1. Getting much better. I plan to get out again next week and run another 100 rounds or so through it. At that point I'll have close to 400 rounds though it and I should have a good indication of where I am.

I have a Shadowhawk 9mm commander. Excellent little gun. Runs like a champ. It has a little over a thousand rounds of reloads through it. I have two other 9mm commanders. I would carry any of them without hesitation. It is a great platform.

Bob will take care of that Kestrel.

I bought a Ladyhawk (same as Kestrel) and the first day at the range ran over 800 rounds through it with ZERO issues. The first 700 were FMJ 115 grain Magtech and then I ran 100 rounds of Federal HST 124 grain to make sure it would cycle my carry ammo.

After I was done, shipped back to NH because they had to change some of the colors of the components (safety, hammer) and they said it still looked brand new. Since then it's probably had another 3k rounds through it and not a single issue.

Best,

David

First box was cheap range ammo {real cheap] .
First five shots at 7 yds were in one hole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
