New Remington Rebate

Hey Gang, if you're thinking of a new Remington handgun this looks like a great opportunity. I just got this in an e-mail today.

Saw that Monday and immediately ordered a standard 5" R1 from GrabaGun at their $499 (before $100 cash rebate) price.

Bought one two years ago when their price was $529 and the rebate was $75. Thought that was a good deal then.

How is the quality of the Alabama made pistols? On a par with those manufactured in Ilion? That first one (gift for a business associate) had a flawless fit & finish for a "low end" 1911 - I was very surprised then.

I'd like to see more feedback myself. I believe I bought one of the last Ilion R1s in December 2014.

Ordered this one Monday at noon, it was delivered to the FFL Tuesday at 5pm, they called this morning at 9m to notify me for the transfer. Guess they had a big shipment to log in on Wednesday. Anyway, the fit & finish are excellent - no flaws that I can see. Same as the Ilion made one from two years ago.
(hope the picture is right side up)

The pic looks just fine, ScoPro. Please let us know how she performs at the range!

The prices on them now are just unreal.
The last one I bought was an R1s in 2014. I paid 714 before the 75 dollar rebate.

The rebate for anyone wondering, was every bit of three months of waiting.

Am sending my rebate application in today.

No kidding on the pricing. Even having to pay Texas sales tax, plus $7.99 shipping & $25 FFL transfer brings the pre-rebate total up to $573.15, which isn't bad. So after the $100 rebate, $473 is a steal IMO.

Got mine from GrabaGun.com last Thursday. Put 100 rounds through it Friday night. First 1911 I've owned. Very please with purchase. $399 after rebate was too good to pass up.

A friend of mine won a Rem. R1 but he never wanted it. He wanted a revolver so we traded. I traded an extra Ruger Security Six 357 mag. 6in bbl for it.
This one is made in Ilion NY.

Are you guys saying that the Ilion ones are better than the other ones. ???

Hi Pete. I hope you feel you go the better end of the deal. I, for one, am not saying the Ilion guns are better than the Huntsville models. I've read here and on other forums about the pros and cons of both. I do like to see feedback on both.

I feel for you, JB. If I had bought mine in August 2014 instead of December 2014 I could have gotten the $75 rebate AND 200 rounds of ammo! Duhhhh....

Outstanding, Jim! I know you'll be very pleased. I just love my Commander. Just keeps on ticking. Please don't forget the pix and range report!

Not me. The R1 I bought in '14 is about the same as the Huntsville one posted above. The only difference besides the Alabama rollmak is the slightly different texture in the black finish. The Bama gun seems a little bit more "matted" to me.

Major,
I know I got the best deal. My Ruger was about 15 yrs. old.....That being said it was in mint condition. I only ever used it for hunting and killed two doe with it. I bet it doesn't have more than 150 rounds thru it. Plus When I was a Pa. State Trooper, I was a firearms instructor for 26 of my 30 yrs. on the job, and in 1981 they sent me to Ruger Armorer school. We had 4" bbl Rugers as our service gun at that time. I learned how to do an action job on them so when I got that 6" model I did a fine action job on it. He really liked that smooth action/trigger job.

BTW,
I started working on the Rem. R1 and just finished a trigger job on it. From the factory the trigger broke at 4.4 lbs. I didn't like that cause it was a tiny bit too hard, and had a lot of creep and pre travel. There was no adjustment on the factory trigger so I put in a Fusion trigger and did all the other parts and it now breaks at 3.2 lbs. smooth no creep and cut down on the pretravel.
I have an STI that is absolutely perfect in every way. It won't replace my STI but it is running a good second.

I purchased my R1 Stainless 5" a couple months ago and have only shot around 500 rounds through so far (I really need/want to get to the range more often). I must say that out of the four handguns I currently own, the R1 quickly became my favorite even over the S&W M&P 45. The R1 Stainless is a very good gun out of the box for me, although I may look into a trigger job if for no other reason than the fact that I like to tinker. I did purchase a couple extra magazines and find it doesn't get much better than to spend a couple hours at the range every chance I get.

I have upgraded many of these in the past few years with new sights and trigger groups, grips also. Mostly from Fusion Firearms. They have a good stock of quality parts to make the essential upgrades to make these a better shooter.

Methinks the Hunter is included. I just looked at Remington's website and they show the Hunter included with all the other R1 pistols.

Just purchased the Remington R1 Commander for $565 shipped at Centerfire Guns in Lakewood, CO. With the rebate that is only $465. Quite a deal for a new 1911 with 2 magazines.
