9x23 124 gr loads.

I'm looking to start reloading my 9x23. Have good reloads my 9x19 and would like to use the powder I have on hand. If I have to I'll buy some Silhouette ,which seems to be a good powder to use for this cartridge. That said, I have some True Blue and CFE-P that I'd like to try if someone had any experience with either one. Anyway, if you've used either one and would care to share a good starting point, I'd be obliged. If you have some data and don't wanna post it publicly, please feel free to send me a private message. Thanks.
Bob

Hi Bob, not a reloader but a 9x23 shooter here. Are you starting with Starline or Winchester brass?

Winchester is definitely proffered as it has thicker sidewalls to absorb more pressure. It also has a slightly lower case capacity so be careful of the reload data you use. If a starline reoad charge is put in a Win case it might overpressure.

Hey D. :using Winchester Brass. Gonna use Win small pistol primers 'cause that's what the consensus recommends, so sounds like a good start.

You may want to try starting with small magnum primers. Look up the loads that Dane burns worked up and thatís what he recommends if youíre going to try and push em.

I load 9x23 Winchester. I use HP-38 powder with 124g bullets.

Here is my data. This is a published load on Hodgdon's site with W231 using 5.3 - 6.3 grains. Use at your own risk.

9x23 Winchester 124gn Plated Hollow Point HP-38

Caliber: 9x23 Winchester
Bullet: 124 Grain Everglades Jacketed Hollow Point
Powder: Hogdon HP-38
Amount: 5.8gn
Micro: 1.25
Primer: CCI Small Magnum
Case: Winchester or Starline
OAL: 1.245in
Velocity: 1285fps
P F: 160
Barrel: 6”
Notes: OAL to match factory. Perfectly accurate. Recoil felt lower than factory (1550). Recoil felt a little lower than my Xtreme/Titegroup loads (1250).

Brass (100 cases) = 14.5oz unprimed
Brass (100cases) = 15.3oz primed
Bullets (100) = 12.6oz

You may want to check as I have usually seen Small Rifle primers recommended... I use CCI or Winchester SR primers in all my .38 Super loads and accuracy and velocity has always been excellent.

Thanks guys, Yeah I meant small rifle primers. But my brain wasn't working right. Of, course according to some people, it never has.

Here is Winchester's loading date from their 15th reloading manual. It only shows 2 powders. W231 is the same as HP38, and WAP is now called Silhouette.

Sailorman, thanks. Yeah, probably gonna get some Silhouette. Just wanted to try some loads with the powders I have now. And I will use the Winchester small RIFLE primers.
