Vigil Owners Report

My search for a 1911 has met the Vigil. My first choice would be a Valor. But there are some good deals to be had with the Vigil.

With the Vigil it seems that Im getting way more 1911 than just the $200-$300 more Iím paying relative to a Springfield or Colt.

If you own one, and especially if you have several hundred rounds through it, Iíd love to hear about it.

For those who carry commanders IWB, what holsters do you prefer? Iím definitely going leather. Just havenít decided if it will be appendix or 4 o clock.

Thanks for the thoughts.

I have Valor Commanders in 9mm & 45acp.

At 3:30-4:00 they disappear from thought in a Milt Sparks Summer Special II.

I would assume the lighter aluminum-framed Vigil would carry even easier. I have other steel-framed 5" models also go nicely IWB in the Milt Sparks Criterion.

Someone will be along in a few with some hands on experience with those Vigil gats.

I have a VBOB (.45), Valor Commander (9mm), TCP (9mm), Specialist Gov't (9mm), and a Vigil CCO (.45).

The Vigil is the same quality as the more expensive and it is one of my favorite 1911's. I use Wilson magazines since I have had minor issues using the DW OEM magazines. In the year that I've owned it, I have just shy of 1700 rounds and simply love the gun.

I carry my Vigil CCO in a Milt Sparks VM2 for the 1911 Commander length.

Haven't got a Vigil yet but carry CCO, CBOB and Guardian for IWB and prefer the Garrett Silent Thunder. Kydex shell with leather lining so no sticking during draw and no scuffing on the gun. Best of both worlds IMO.

I have a 9MM Vigil. Minor hicup on the mag release when new but the factory fixed it quickly. Well over 1500 flawless rounds. Same quality as my PM9 full size and PM9 commander.

I have a Vigil Commander in .45 with about 2000 rounds through it. It's been great. I use Wilson elite mags with it and I changed grips as a personal preference. In my opinion the Vigil is a good value.

I jumped on the Vigil band wagon early, as I was looking for a LW Government model less FCS. The Vigil checked all of the boxes for me. Add a Milt Sparks Criterion, and the old girl just disappears. Best of luck!

My DW Valkyrie (a lightweight Commander - basically the same gun as your Vigil Commander but with a few extra cosmetic features) rides in a Milt Sparks Summer Special 2 horsehide in natural tan. I wear mine at 3:30.

This holster goes on and off the belt with ease. You can easily shift the holster fore and aft a bit while it is on the belt but the rough side out construction amazingly keeps it from shifting on its own. Fits the gun like a glove. You can frequently find them in stock from one of the approved retailers listed on the Sparks website. I got mine from Brownell's with free shipping.

Of course you will want a good belt if you do not already have one. That's a whole 'nuther episode in this sitcom.

I have 2 Vigils in 45acp. Pure pleasure to carry concealed and deadly accurate. I use the 8 round Chip McCormick power mags. These are even lighter than my S&W M&P 2.0 45's.

I had a Vigil Commander. Very nice gun and it felt great in the hand. I put 1000 rounds through it and the only issue was that it hated Speer Gold Dots. I've owned many Dan Wessons and the Vigil is as good as any of them.

I carry a Vigil Govt in 45. 2200 rounds through it so far, it had to go back once for some tuning but since then its been flawless-any mag-any ammo.
I carry mine in a kydex IWB @4:00 and its all-day comfortable.

There is a disturbing video on YouTube where a lot of Dan Wesson owners are complaining about rust and pitting of their hammers.

When was this? Ive seen them for well under MSRP, but never that low.

For that they would be taking my money as fast as I could hand it over!

Don't be disturbed. DW uses tool steel hammers on many of their guns that are bare (no finish). The hammers on all 3 of My Valkyries were like this. If you live in a humid climate, this will happen every time to tooled steel. I live in South Florida (swamp) and my DW hammers that didn't have a finish and were bare tool steel developed rust in a matter of days. The solution, have the hammer blued, or some other finish. It is nothing to be the least bit concerned about. DW will even do it for you for a very nominal fee. Like less than $50. Just take the hammer assembly out and send it in. Contact them first.

The reason this doesn't happen with other manufacturers, they used cast and MIM hammers. DW does not use any of that crap in their guns, they are 100% forged and tooled steel.
