Kimber Rapide Black Ice

Found and handled one of these at Cabelaís yesterday. Loved the feel, looks, and the sights. Wanted to do some research before dropping $1400 + tax but canít find anything about it (or the regular Rapide) aside from Kimberís own videos. Would like to hear the good and the bad from an actual owner if there are any on here. I only own one other Kimber, a Pro Raptor 2, and Iíve been very happy with it. I know that Kimber has their fair share of fans and haters and I am not worried about that. Just hoping to get a few opinions from Rapide owners if possible.

All Kimbers start out the same. I have not handled one, but typically the rise in cost over $1000 comes largely from aesthetics (Think the Raptor Series) with some having added features (Ambi safety, checkered front grip) The three types that come to mind are the Gold Combats which have no bushing and a bull barrel, the Super Match, which is truly well fitted by hand and the new series of optic ready and optic mounted pistols. The Black Ice series appear to be mostly aesthetics that aid in weight reduction.

I'm surprised I haven't seen more on these guns here. Nice looking guns but the real klanger for me was Kimpro. Good grief, they managed to figure out DLC for the barrel why are they still using that junk on the frames...

I bought a Rapide some months ago. The Pro Raptor Stainless now has competition for my favorite shooter. The Rapide was awesome, right outta the box.

Saw a review in "Guns and Ammo" mag. One question they did not answer is does this have the Swartz type mechanical firing pin safety on it since they don't call it a "II"? Have yet to see one to pick up and look at in a LGS.

The Rapide does not have the Swartz safety. If the model name doesn't have the "II" it doesn't have it.
