Red Dot on a Commander

If you put a red dot on a WC commander size handgun, how do you like it? What are any downsides you had? Did you go the True Optic route or send the slide out to someone else? Is it a bad idea to put a red dot on a commander size (you don't need to weigh in to express your extreme displeasure with mucking up the look of a 1911 or WC specific 1911 gun with a red dot)?

Would be on a 9mm gun used almost entirely for range and maybe some classes and home def.

I have a Dan Wesson Valor commander in 9mm. Had Primary Machine mill the slide for a Vortex Venom. Have several other guns with Venoms so I am familiar with the product and think they are excellent red dots. Vortex warrantees them for the life of the optic, no questions asked.
The Valor commander is a joy to shoot especially with the red dot. What is easier than putting the dot on the target and pulling the trigger? No more concern about lining up the front sight in the rear sight, no more questions about 6 0'clock hold or is it combat hold, no more concerns about sight radius. The red dot makes shooting so much more enjoyable for me. This is my first commander and it seems to have a much better balance in my hand than the 5" gov.
I will also add I don't carry, I don't compete, I just visit the indoor/outdoor range two to three times a week and enjoy shooting my guns.
Oh and back to the red dot, of course the shooter has to do their job i.e. grip, trigger control etc., etc.

I have a DW I sent to WC for optic cut for a rmr currently it a Holosun which I like. I use it for range and occasional carry. To me is no down side.
Wilson Combat Xtac Elite compact 9mm, Smith and Wesson 4" Ported Shield 9mm with optic, S&W Bodyguard .380, S&W Victory 22lr., CZ Shadow 2.
