I used standard 1911 grips on my Taurus for years and never noticed a difference.

Taurus-specific grips are slightly wider, because the Taurus grip frame is slightly wider, fore and aft, than other 1911 grip frames.

RAASCO makes Taurus-specific grips, and last time I checked, they had an illustration explaining why their Taurus-specific grips were different than the usual 1911 grips.

Another source for excellent Taurus-specific custom crips is our forum member, Sarge, who is a custom grip maker of the first order and who is savvy in the ways of Taurus grips.

Sarge made these excellent custom smooth stag grips for my PT1911:
