Once every few years or so we get a noticeable shake here in San Diego. Usually centered somewhere in the central valley where populations, and building heights, are low.

Usually no big deal at all. The bigger danger is wildfires if you live in the sticks or on a canyon edge.

Regarding theaters: In the 1970's the movie EARTHQUAKE was released, with the special technology "SENSURROUND" or something like that. It was a low-vibration set of speakers that caused a vibrating/rumbling sensation during the film.

It was pretty cool. But I did see some people get up & exit the theater.

The joke at the time was that there was a Double Feature showing EARTHQUAKE and Towering Inferno called Shake & Bake
