I'm going to be camping in a Kentucky state park and I cant seem to find any info on the do's or dont's of CCW in state parks. I dont want to rely on the lack of information as permission to carry. I know my Ohio permit is good in KY. I just need to find out if carry is permitted in the state parks and if so, is it also extended to the state owned buildings there as well? (park office, shower facilities,etc)
Does anyone have a link to where I can find this information?

Carry your gun when you come here. Just stay away from schools, court houses, and post offices and you will be fine. Don't go waving it around and you'll be fine. Hell 3/4 of the state seems to pack. Nobody cares as most of the state is rural or has a rural background. Come spend your money the state can use it.:biglaugh:

i should mention i also saw signs that indicate certain counties prohibited carrying in their parks. one example is jefferson state forest in elizabethtown. they have signs up there stating it's against a county ordinance to carry a weapon even if you have a ccw.

Be careful if it's Lake Cumberland State Park and you decide to go out on the lake in a boat or canoe or something while CCing.

The Missus and I are renting a houseboat on Lake Cumberland in September. I did some digging and found that the lake is managed by the Army Corps of Engineers. Guess what?

The following rules and regulations, published in the Federal Register of February 11, 2000, and amended on May 5, 2000, govern the public use of water resources development projects administered by the Chief of Engineers. Visitors are bound by these Title 36 regulations.

Title 36, Sec. 327.13 Explosives, firearms, other weapons and fireworks.

(a) The possession of loaded firearms, ammunition, loaded projectile
firing devices, bows and arrows, crossbows, or other weapons is
prohibited unless:
(1) In the possession of a Federal, state or local law enforcement
officer;
(2) Being used for hunting or fishing as permitted under Sec. 327.8,
with devices being unloaded when transported to, from or between hunting
and fishing sites;
(3) Being used at authorized shooting ranges; or
(4) Written permission has been received from the District
Commander.
(b) Possession of explosives or explosive devices of any kind,
including fireworks or other pyrotechnics, is prohibited unless written
permission has been received from the District Commander.

Hmmm....KY is pretty easy about CCWing. As for the USACOE, I dunno. I wonder how the Federal change in policy about CCWing in Federal parks effects this? Might be out of date?

I am aware that boating is it's own thing. But my thinking would be, if I am not drinking, no problem. But generally I am not a boat kind of guy.

As was said earlier, if you are coming to KY, bring your gun and your money. Both are very welcome.

Greyson

We appear to be getting closer to CCW being allowed on Army Corps of Engineers property.

On July 14, the House voted in favor of an amendment to the Water and Energy Appropriations Act that, if signed into law, would specifically prevent the use of funds in the bill to enforce federal regulations prohibiting lawful concealed carry on most Corps of Engineers property (i.e. the laws of the state in which the property is located would govern).

On July 15, the House passed the Water and Energy Appropriations Act and forwarded it to the Senate where it now rests in committee.

This is a funding bill for the next fiscal year only, so the lifting of the current restriction on lawful CCW on ACOE properties would be assured only for FY 2012 (and only on certain ACOE properties).

The House proposal to make most ACOE properties CCW friendly on a permanent basis is the Recreational Lands Self-Defense Act of 2011 (H.R. 1865). That legislation is currently sitting in House committee.

See:

http://fw.ky.gov/kfwis/viewable/ViewableWMA.asp

Click "More Info" regarding the areas you are interested in.

If owned by the U. S. Army / Corps of Engineers - then you aren't supposed to carry. There are a number of areas that are owned or managed by Army / COE - not just Cumberland.

As Remasculated described, those areas owned or managed by Army / COE are not the same as those managed by KDFWR and not the same as state parks or national parks. Maybe that bill will go through but for now, you aren't supposed to carry in those areas.

Well I live here and so do most of the people I know and we carry just about every where we go. I fish Lake Cumberland several times a year. Meet my fishing buddy from Somerset. We are both armed the whole time. Most everybody is armed here with something. It's just the culture man.:)
