Ruger Custom 1911?

Now that Ruger has a pro shooting team headed up by Doud Koenig, how long until Ruger comes out with a new set of 1911s with custom features, like checkered front strap, forward cocking serrations, forged slide and frame, trigger guard undercut (like colt and dan wesson), improved slide/frame/barrel/bushing fit, upgraded trigger components, upgraded sights like warren tac or 10-8 performance? I believe they will and knowing them they will come in at an msrp around $1200, street price around $1000. They will beat dan wesson and others at this price point and it will be a game changer. Has anybody herad rumors on this?

Not that I'd know one way or another, but it sounds like wishful thinking to me.
Who else out there would be able to make the gun you suggest and hit that price point?
If companies could (and if it would be such a game changer) why haven't they yet?

I'd love top see it, because if it happened, it'd at least mean a lil more traffic in the Ruger section of the forum. :p

I know that I would be very interested if they did come out with the SR1911 you describe ( well, except for the FCS). So many firearms, with so little extra cash...
Agreed. :)

Ruger does not build custom guns or have a custom shop. Ruger believes their stock guns are good enough. If you even send them a gun to repair under warranty any and all custom parts in the gun will be removed and replaced with factory stock parts and the gun will be rebuilt to factory specs. If you want a custom 1911 look somewhere else. They only build production grade guns. They will not even sell you ignition parts. You have to understand that Ruger has been sued so many times by stupid owners who "modified" their Ruger guns that they want no part of that business. I can't really blame them. If you want a tricked out Ruger you will have to find a smith to do the work. I would bet that Koenig's race gun was built by someone outside of Ruger.

Koenig doesnt shoot the double stack games. He has been strickly a single stack guy. Some others on the team, no doubt will play these games. Despite Ruger never doing custom guns, they hired Paull Plouffe away from S&W and he headed up comp shooters at s&w. They will dealve into this field. Also, Koenig and Randi Rogers, top female pro shooter now on rugers team, will not shoot the production 1911s or ruger american or sr9 pistols. They will come out with custom style1911s and a polymer striker comp gun, just you watch. Maybe nra show roll out of first models.

I think Ruger really missed the mark here. First, msrp of $2499. That is considerably more than Dan Wesson Valor or Specialist. Does any knowledgeable person here this this Ruger custom will be better than any Dan Wesson? I certainly do not. It puts them at Les Baer price level, and I seriously doubt they will best LB in any way. It puts them very close to Ed Brown and it wont be better than EB. Hell it may not be better than a production Sig 1911 at over twice the price. Not saying it wont be a very good gun. Also Ruger diesnt say no mim parts, so you know there will be some. Front strap checkering looks machined and not full length of front strap. I say this only cause DW, LB and EB have no mim parts and are the price point competition. Ruger has been swinging and missing a lot lately, IMHO. Ruger American pistol is a fat chunky clunky miss. They finally do an all steel full size SR1911 target and it has a bull barrel making it illegal for uspsa and idpa. Get it together Ruger. This price is way too high. This will fail at that price point for all but serious Ruger fanboys.

I was at the IDPA match sponsored by Ruger today. They had a table set up.
I got the shoot the new Ruger 9mm 1911. It seems like a nice gun.
I tried to post a picture of the new gun but could not get it done.

Am i missing something or were you guys talking about something else? I see a couple of ruger custom shop 1911s i am interested in and they are not 2500 or some other crazy number. The models i have been looking at are the 6702 and the 6708. MSRP on both should be around 1000 it looks like. AS far as how they compare to a regular sr1911 it looks like checkered backstrap, novak sights, and maybe a upgraded trigger?

I recently purchased the SR1911 "Koenig" Custom. I got it from Bud's for $1750, including their credit card premium. So, when talking about it, it shouldn't really be considered a $2500 pistol.

I am far from a 1911 expert, but I do own a few. Functionally, the gun is fantastic. It has run flawlessly. It is as accurate as any pistol I own, including my Sig P210. The slide to frame fit and barrel to bushing fit both seem awfully tight to me. The trigger guard undercut is very nice. So, if one is looking for a gun for actually shooting, I think this would be a great choice.

The straight vertical trigger isn't my biggest preference, but that is only a preference thing. The trigger is good, but it's not exceptional, compared to my Les Baer or Nighthawk. It is just a bit heavier than maybe it should be. Although not a 1911, I will say I prefer my Sig P210's trigger. Nonetheless, I really am not saying it's a bad trigger.

In terms of finish, such as the fit and blending of the grip safety, the gun comes up a bit short for the price point. Not horribly so, but I can say my Colt Special Combat Government that was only a little more money, is a clear aesthetic notch higher. The "Koenig" looks nice, overall. It is on the distinctive side, which one may like or not.

In conclusion, because flawless operation and superb accuracy are my two main concerns, I feel the "Koenig" is worth what I paid. I am happy to have it and shoot it. If you're more the sort of guy who craves the custom/semi-custom aesthetic refinements, you'll certainly think this is not a good value.

(Sorry for the lack of photos...If people really want a detailed photo of something on the gun, let me know, and I'll take one...probably with the added bonus of my hand in there too.)

Good posting FullySupported. I got a chance to shoot a Koenig 9mm this past weekend. Amazing fit and amazing trigger. I left it feeling if someone wanted a great pistol, it fit the bill. If someone would feel better paying twice as much for some perceived improvement, well, it 's their money. But I can't imagine it would improve the operation of the gun. I thought the Ruger Custom Shop offering was classic Ruger. A great offering at a realistic price. But at a genuine higher level.

I like the standard model 1911's and they offer a good value. I don't think the custom shop 1911 Ruger is going to be a good seller for them because there is to much competition out there. If I were going to buy another $1700.00 1911 it would be a LB, SFA,Colt or Dan Wesson. Ruger's strong point in my opinion is a good reliable gun at a good price.

I agree. I have had too many Rugers with poor accuracy to chance dropping $1700.00 and being disappointed. For that $$$ a CZ TSO would be my first choice.
