Order what you want. All I'm saying is that it still takes time and attention to get it right. And it is the most difficult part to get right, unless you don't mind a "hard fit"...which kinda makes...

Fitting a barrel bushing properly is the most difficult part of building a 1911. I'd leave that part to the factory or the very able and patient.

I concur :)

Barrel to frame fit has mainly to do with the way the barrel feet and link lock up with the slide stop. And the barrel link controls how the barrel interacts with the locking lugs...

No machine is perfect. The barrel to slide fit matters most, and then comes the barrel to frame fit. If the slide to frame fit is so perfect that it WON'T allow a natural barrel-to-slide and...

It reminds me of those jeans that people pay more for to have worn out for you before you ever put them on.

I don't have experience with either, but wasn't another major difference that the Mustang used a locked breech, while the Gov't was simple blow-back?

The mag that came with my old 1991A1 is parkerized and simply stamped "COLT 45 AUTO"...no pony, no "C" or "M", and no dots at all. I bought a few more just like it (except blued) from CDNN a while...

You're really talking about barrel to slide fit and to a lesser degree barrel to frame fit, which definitely do matter. The slide to frame fit might affect accuracy by as much as 5% all else being...

You're OCD'ing that gun to death. I've been there. If you can't detect *some* movement between a 1911's slide and frame, someone placed form over function. I don't trust a 1911 that doesn't have a...

Thanks for the replies. I just didn't know that it's intended. I've no doubt this has already been hashed out long before my DW days. No big deal, I just wanted to make sure I had the correct factory...

Commander length recoil spring plugs on 5" pistols?

I searched around and couldn't find anything. Why does DW use Commander length plugs on full-sized pistols?

I respect that, and I didn't mean to offend. Maybe there are enough proponents of the serrations to merit them. I just don't see the point, and I apologize for it.

Hi! That's not the article I was referring to, but that's a good one...probably better than the other. I've never seen, heard of, nor used WD-40 "Specialist", but it bodes well for the standard WD-40...

Well either way, he cleared it. The technique may have been partially due to frustration with his new malfunctioning sidearm. But, like I said, it can probably be cheaply and easily fixed.

I think his GI mags might need new springs, and I'd put a new 17# recoil spring in it before I even checked the extractor tension. Someone gave that beauty up for a reason, but it probably wouldn't...

Since it works fine so far, I'd say it just depends on how much you rely on the pistol and how seriously you use it. If it's just another pistol in the safe, I'd shoot it to failure (if it ever does...
