Agreed. I carry in the 2-2:30 position too, and it works well for concealability, access, and comfort. I normally carry a G19, P10C, or PPQ without issues.

None of the other calibers are one shot stoppers, either. As for the why, tradition plays a large role. Of course in competition shooting, 9mm, .40, and .38 Super are popular.
