I'm guessing that you didn't read the manual telling you what cleaners to use. Hoppe's is definitely NOT on that list. Most folks don't read the break-in requirements also.

My go-to is Eezox. It is a liquid that I apply then leave it overnight to dry. Wipe it down and it will protect without oil that can stain your grips.
