Just snagged another Hoyt holster for my Smith & Wesson Model 5926. This is a San Luis Obispo Police Department holster and is so marked. It is circa 1992 when the SLOPD carried 5926 pistols.

On a 1911 pistol, the mainspring housing IS the back strap. If you remove the mainspring housing, you have no back strap, just a wide gap between the two sides of the frame.
