More barrels are ruined by cleaning…… I clean my chambers with a brush when needed and if I do clean a barrel (rarely does it need it, prior to ransom rest work is a need) it is Hoppes #9.

It would be interesting to see the metallurgical analysis of failed SS barrels. It appears to be a brittle failure, either due to material defect or fatigue. It is not unheard of with hard SS...
