Try some dry firing, explain to him that the front sight should NOT move when the hammer drops. If he can see it move it's a miss. Worked on my daughter in law. Keep it as simple as possible.

Many years ago I used WD40 to wipe down my guns. It will dry just like varnish. I expect if used for gun oil it may well shut down a tightly fitted gun.

Wrong, in a revolver you lose some pressure due to the cylinder gap. Lead bullets have a lot less resistance going thru the bbl compared to jacketed bullets, the HBWC made of soft lead seals better...

Shock buffs don't reduce perceived recoil. I shoot 1911 guns and a 625 revolver. the revolver slaps your hand considerably harder than a 1911 gun. May be time to switch to a .38 revolver.

It can be even worse, excess oil/solvent can kill a primer and then the gun won't shoot. Had it happen before.
