Get as many books as you can and read as much as you can. That's the only way to learn. Then research all the tools you're going to need to get started and then think about it some more....

I would like to go with Ed Brown stuff but some of the parts specify series 70 or 80 and I'm not not sure what will fit the S&W given the design differences.

I like Madison too, and drowning out the liberal BS is exactly what you have to do. I think WI is slowly becoming gun-friendly, SLOWLY. Look how close we came to getting the CCW overidden last year....
