Tapping a slide for a 6-48 screw.....

It requires good patience when tapping 6-40 or 6-48 screw threads in a slide. If the steel is harder than most slides, it requires even more patience! :)

When I have a hard slide, I may opt to...

Changing sights to adjust POA vs. POI

How a gun locks up and the amount of upper lug engagement will often determine how tall the front and rear sight needs to be.....it is a variable.

I am a DIY gunsmith, so when I build a new 1911...

A "failure to stop drill" of two shots to the body and one to the head may be shot extremely fast, but to get very effective hits, the closer the distance the better the chance of getting two COM...

Gold Cup and gunsmith fixing slide fit on the rails.....

This is my opinion as well. If you want to improve the accuracy of a 1911 pistol, the first thing is to get a good barrel fit and a properly fitted barrel bushing.

Tightening the slide to the...

.38 Super and velocities....

My preference for a self defense load using my .38 super guns, is a 124/125 gr. JHP that leaves the muzzle at an average of 1,300-1,350 fps depending on the length of the barrel for each gun.

Compact pistols and reliability....

As others have said, handguns with barrels less than 4" can be just as reliable as 5" guns or larger. When it comes to reliability, I want a gun that has been thoroughly tested, and may shoot over...

Accuracy and S&W EZ 9mm pistol

It might be a "lemon!" However, I would try using some good 9mm match ammo, and rest the gun on sandbags and test it at 30 ft, just to remove any possibility of human error. I have had guns that...

.45acb shoots low in Para P-12 with 230gr FMJ ammo

If we assume there is no problem with the gun, then the rear sight needs to be taller, and the notch cut in the rear sight needs to be raised as well. I like and prefer good quality adjustable rear...

Staccto P and first round nose dives with JHP bullets
