After the overwhelming majority of posters in your other thread let you know that Dan Wesson makes the highest-quality production 1911s, why have you settled on these two brands? Just curious.

It seems you may not be aware that Kimber has long had models in its lineup that sell in the $2,000 range (which is absolutely laughable for the quality they represent). Plenty of other models...

That may be.

My impression was that they were in the conversation Series I / pre-Ron Cohen days, but I didn't really become fond of 1911s until a little over a decade ago, owing to the sour taste...

Not counting an unfired pre-Series 70 GCNM that I bought to keep that way, a Baer PII was my second 1911, and I’d rather it have been my first.

In any case, I see no indication from what the OP...

Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend them in that price range. I imagine DWs have all jumped up as well.

I’ve seen several used Baers in excellent condition sell for $1,500 or just a bit over recently,...

If they’re starting at over $1,600 now, then that’s a result of the current panic — which I assume is affecting other guns in its price bracket as well.

TRPs could be had for under $1,200 all day...

Like almost everyone has said, Dan Wesson is easily at the head of the class when it comes to production 1911s. The combination of fit and parts quality is unmatched in that bracket.

A properly executed cast part subjected to hot isostatic pressing can come close to a properly executed forged part, but HIPped castings are not something often seen in handguns, as far as I know....

You bet, and I think you're making the right call. A smaller number of remarkable guns definitely beats a larger quantity of more run-of-the-mill stuff in my book.

Keep looking for the 945. For a...

They’re reasonably nice guns. Very reliable and durable, although not really ideal for any self-defense application, owing to the awkward combination of the SAO trigger and slide-mounted safety, as...

I wish I had bought a few real ones at that price 15 years ago. They’re going for $13-16K these days in top condition.

Not sure about all that. I’ve seen a number of low-end 1911s that were definitely cheaply built junk. Also plenty of lower-end 1911s that would never be close to dependable without a significant...
