Powders and accuracy in pistols....

Years ago, I shot NRA Outdoor Bullseye. My buddies and I would set up a Ransom Rest, properly mounted, and test loads using Alliant Bullseye powder at 50 yards. We often found that certain lot...

Front sights....

I like dove tail front sights; I have had 1911 Colt pistols where the staked front sight flew off....grrrr.... and I never found the sight! :(

I also like Bo-Mar adjustable rear sights, but do...

STI 2011 trigger....

Any lubricant with molybdenum disulphide is best, since it is supposed to get into the "pores" of the metal....and Brownell's Action lube does that! However, if you can purchase a "moly grease,"...

1911 10mm

Even with hot loaded 10mm ammo, the slide velocity can be regulated by the power of the coils in the main spring. I used a very stout load in a hi-cap .38 super with a Commander length slide, and I...

STI 2011 triggers....

The STI 2011 trigger "as is" is better than an aluminum trigger pad and bow.... I find no difference when switching from any 1911 trigger just because one is plastic and another may be aluminum.........

Double stack frame....

I would recommend an all steel frame from:

https://www.rogue-tac.com/

These are the frames cloned from STI International, which was called the STI 2011 pistol. STI 2011 pistols have been used...

Brownell 1911 lug cutter.....

I do the same. The build up of steel chips will not help to make a smooth cut... I use a grease lube which will hold the chips better, and as LOG said.....clean the cutter often!

Barrels and vibrational harmonics.....

Years ago I purchased and read a book entitled "the Accurate Rifle" by Warren Page. It was a good read, and well written. I believe he did discuss barrel vibration, which is one reason why...

Barrel vibration and accuracy.....

The negative affect of barrel vibration on accuracy with a properly built handgun is probably a moot point.

Barrel vibration and "vibrational harmonics" is more important for longer rifle...

1911 slides.....

Most mfg's that make 1911 slides offer a 9mm/38 super slide as their selection for both cartridges. I believe the difference in diameter of the back head of the brass case is roughly .012" wider...

1911 gun springs.....

One of the best makers of gun springs is the Wolff gunsprings company. I would give them a call at 800-545-0077 if anyone desires technical information about gun springs for a pistol......their...

Clark/Lisner ramped barrels......

Since I am a DIY gunsmith without a mill or lathe, I do everything with hand tools. For me, it is easier to fit a W/N ramped barrel, since a mill is not needed to cut the frame. I usually order a...

.38 special project......

Outstanding work! Is this for a customer that wants everything restored to an original spec...? If not, rather than fabricating a new trigger pad, wouldn't a Colt Gold Cup trigger work???

"Felt recoil and handguns"

Felt recoil is very subjective. If one person uses the same brand of ammo, holds the same model and style of gun with a good and firm two hand grip, and another person does the same but does not...

Dillon poor customer service.....

I finally got another call back from Dillon, and once again "Steve" called. I told him I needed some parts for my RL 1050, and mentioned it was not a Dillon Super 1050. He then asked me if the...

Dillon Precision and very poor customer service issues

I called Dillon Precision today, to order some worn parts for my D1050. I experienced the worst customer service from any company in a very long time.

When I called their toll free number around...

One of the most popular bullets is the 9mm. I just checked both of the above websites for 9mm plated bullets from Berry's and Extreme bullets......AND ALL OF THEIR PLATED 9MM BULLETS WERE OUT OF...

Plunger tube and spring....

Nope! But I did not shoot them as much as my action pistol competition guns.

The STI 2011 guns have withstood the test of time in USPSA, IDPA, and other pistol competitions. The receiver is...

STI Edge pistols.....

Every STI Edge I have ever seen was a doublestack STI 2011 Edge that had long frame rails that extended to the end of the slide......

And STI Edge single stack pistol may be rare......?

It is because there is currently an ammo shortage......since this is "the reloading Forum" and I know from my experience that plated bullets are not as accurate as jacketed bullets, I think it is...

1911 pistols and loose plunger tubes....

The above is not an uncommon problem with 1911 style pistols...... I like STI 2011 pistols, and they have an integral plunger tube that is part of the frame...it will never come loose....LOL! :)

There is nothing wrong with using a 1911 for LE use, however, having been a Deputy Sheriff, I prefer a high capacity weapon. You never know when under stress if you will remember to reload when...

Cheap 9mm ammo in short supply......

Since I shoot about 15K rounds of pistol ammo per year, I can still load 9mm cheaper than purchasing at a retail store or on-line.

I belong to a private gun range, and pick up mostly once fired...
