The gap in your photo appears very similar to my own SA (actually from the custom shop) and other SAs I have seen. In my experience, the gap on most production guns is less than 1/32, even on Colts....

Yes, but I would bet that many Colt fans would pay extra for better quality control and fit/finish. I think $50-75 extra invested per gun would pay off in more sales and fewer returns.
