That's because one set is held on with a cross screw (2 piece grip) and the other set has a metal U shaped tab inside at the bottom of the grip (1 piece grip) and the screw goes in from the bottom...

If you want a slight brushed grain, use a lower grain wet/dry and go in one direction.

Find the scotch pad closets to the grain pattern you have. With the slide off, going in "one" direction, holding it perfectly perpendicular make one long stroke at a time until the scratch is gone....
