The Brownells tutorial is great but

It also depends on several hundred dollars of equipment and stones. I have several trigger/sear jigs and the Powers jig is worth every penny. I have also developed my own "mantra" for trigger/hammer...

Take the gun to someone you trust, hopefully a smith, and have the ignition parts inspected. There is a snag or burr somewhere. Also, the creep and vagueness of the trigger alone would warrant a good...

Based purely on what you have said...

I would also suspect a problem with the sear/hammer. It is possible that the engagement is "delicate" and more than just a problem with the grip safety allowing too much movement.

Have you polished the area on the mag where the disconnect contacts it? Have you polished the foot of the disconnect?

Use modeling clay

Roll a thin strip of clay and lay it in the lug channels in the slide. Then measure the thickness of the clay in the channel.

I took a local class 3 years ago for ongoing NRA training. EVERY instructor in the class and at least half the class showed up in tan 5.11 pants, black instructors belt and some sort of "tac" shoes....

Maybe you could load some empty brass with a primer and see if that will make the primers fire. Thanks for the thorough answers. Seems to point at ammo but going back to SA is the way to get it done....
