I first heard it as a "Gun Bunny" on a 105mm howitzer crew. It used to be used in the US Army Field Artillery towed gun sections. The NCO in charge of the battery was called the "Chief of Smoke."

If we are looking for penetration, have y'all considered hardcast (Keith style) loads? That is if penetration is not an issue. Pretty good SD load - again if penetration is not the issue.
