I have an EGW dovetail mount on my Wilson EDC X9 for a Burris FF3. No problems after about 250 rounds. My groups are much tighter and for my eyes it is well worth it.

I was in the marines about the same time as your dad and the 1911a1 was the normal issue depending on your MOS or rank. The 1911's I was issued probably dated from WWII on.
