I usually sing chocolate rain and do the robot. It helps with my nerves. I still manage to botch the first stage every now and again but I don't think I botch it any more that any other stage.

As long as the sights and the trigger are the same or very similar I bet your shooting won't change much at all. Your reloading and general gun handling may suffer a bit though.
