wanting to run Mono HW in IPSC/USPSA

I'm wanting to use my weight legal (42.8 oz with empty magazine) Baer Mono Heavy in IPSC Single Stack.

Do folks do this? Can I do this?

I suppose it's up to my local matches.

I see old references to rules not allowing full length dust covers, but now I'm not seeing said references in current rules, and can't find copies of old rules.

Next I guess next would be holster choice, and I was thinking of cutting up a Safariland retention holster where it starts to narrow. I'd still have enough holster left for the retention locking lug and all three holster screw mounts would still be in place to the belt loop.

********

I just want a place to put a lot more rounds through what has unintentionally become a safe queen. Competitions are so much more fun than just wasting rounds at the range.

Seems like a way to get some use out of it. Single Stack is not well populated these days, you may find yourself in a division of one or a few.

There are holster specs, be sure you don't cut off too much.

See appendix D5, item 23

The dust cover may be no more than 3.25 inches measured from the rear of the slide stop pin to the front of the dust cover.

It's a dumb rule, but there it is.

What the rule says is
• Factory installed light rail attachments if the dust cover is no longer than 3.25 inches measured from the rear of the slide stop pin to the front of the dust cover.

No light rail, where's the limit on dust cover?

Are you in the US? Then we are talking USPSA. No FLDC, no race holsters. You can have a drop offset holster but it has to cover up to 1/2" below the ejection port

You could shoot it in L-10 though with a race holster and 10 round mags

L10 is more fun than SS, but apparently also no longer popular.

I would think you can stick a 10R magazine in it and run it in the Limited-10 division. That is what I use to do with my Wilson Combat tactical elite, it has a heavy flange barrel and didn't qualify for single stack.

That HW-Mono will give you an intrinsic advantage in SS I would think, but if you want more company (and shoot against slightly "enhanced" guns - which is what the HW-mono is in essence), go with L10.

As far as holster's talk to Blade Tech, they will have or modify one to fit your needs. When none of the so called "custom" kydex outfits would step up to help me for a 5.4" full dust cover Infinity (btw, the Bear HW-M influenced this gun when I designed it on-line) Blade-Teck took a 6" full dust cover holster and cut down to 5.4" - voila!

Was it ever popular? It's pretty much the worst division, other than revolver.

I have played in all the divisions (except L-10 because I dont live in a 10 round state) and made GM in a few of them. But revolver is the funnest and took the most time to make GM.

To the OP, it actually isnt up to your local club. Well, officially. They can chose to ignore rules but then they arent running a USPSA match.

You can find rulebooks at www.uspsa.org

The local match is 6-7 in either SS or L10. Then around 15 in Limited (I'd be at a capacity disadvantage even with 10 round mags).

I guess that's all it's about isn't it, just getting it out. At least I could run Major without a big deal.

waktasz 10-29-2019 02:36 PM

Yep. L-10 is really the only place for a gun like that.

We'd get 10-15 shooters every weekend, 15 years ago; sometimes 20% or more of the match entrants.
It was single stack division, with nobody shooting anything but.
When Single Stack was introduced, L10 dried up, and after a while nobody was shooting SS, either.
Shooting 8-round "views" with an eight-round gun isn't my idea of "racing".
I'd shoot my custom longslide .45 in Limited, so I'd have somebody to compete against.

15 years ago was the tail end of the AWB, so that makes sense
