I wonder what the failure mechanism is.

"Springfield has determined that under exceptionally rare circumstances, some 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and .45ACP caliber pistols could experience an unintended discharge during the loading process when the slide is released, or could experience a double-fire when the trigger is pulled once. The chance of these conditions existing is exceptionally rare, but if they happen, serious injury or death could occur."

The striker-pin block should prevent discharge during loading if there was a problem with sear engagement. Maybe the exceptionally rare circumstance during loading is if the block was stuck AND something else failed.

The double-fire may also be a sear or disconnector issue.

Almost as fun as a chain-firing blackpowder revolver!:biglaugh:

My XDs falls within the serial number range of the recalls :( ...just filled out the online form / received my fedex label. Will send my XDs off tomorrow morning ..

...I only have shot 200 rounds through it with no persistent malfunctions (a FTF here and there with JHPs, but I attribute those to new pistol+newbie shooter error) ...

..I hope I get it back from Springfield in time for my next planned range trip on Sept 28th ...

Springfield Armory® is initiating this voluntary safety recall to upgrade 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and 3.3 XD-S™ .45ACP pistols with new components, which eliminate the possibility of a potentially dangerous condition. We want to emphasize that no injuries have been reported to date.

Springfield has determined that under exceptionally rare circumstances, some 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and .45ACP caliber pistols could experience an unintended discharge during the loading process when the slide is released, or could experience a double-fire when the trigger is pulled once. The chance of these conditions existing is exceptionally rare, but if they happen, serious injury or death could occur.

What should you do?
STOP USING YOUR 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP PISTOL AND CAREFULLY UNLOAD IT!

To begin the upgrade process and for fastest response, click on the Get Started link at the top of the page. On that page enter your serial number and click Next. If your pistol is subject to this recall, you will need to provide your name, address, phone number, and email address. The serial number is located on the frame beneath the dust cover (accessory rail). If you prefer, you may initiate the upgrade process by calling 800-680-6866. "Springfield Armory® is initiating this voluntary safety recall to upgrade"

I'm lost here .....With the chance of doubling and firing during reload....Why would this be considered a Voluntary recall?

BTW, I helped a friend of mine pick out one of these at a gun show a couple of months ago......sent him a text @ 6:38 pm. His was his first gun. Hes doing the on line recall tomorrow. I feel kind of bad.

Just noticed your post after I posted :p. Definitely complain about the light strikes, and how the slide doesn't return to battery if press checked. The more people do, the better. Maybe they'll fix it all.

Already sent mine in, 30 minutes after I got my shipping label. Included a note about my tight extractor and light strikes. Hope they do a full workup. Maybe they'll throw in a trigger job for my troubles? ;) (I've heard of them doing this before)

Cheeze, second time my XDs will have to go back...And my XDM-comp also went back once. I have an SA M1a which is the BEST, but Not sure WTH they are doing in Croatia with these pistols (only firearms I have ever needed to return)...What a PITA!...Thanks for the Heads-up though!

This is why I have not bought an XDs and do not ever buy a new version of any firearm until 4 to 5 years after it has been out

We are human, we do not make perfect things, it takes time to get the bugs worked out sometimes

That said, I own an XD .40 service and an XD sc 9mm, never a problem with either

Damn that sounds dangerous. Aren't those XDs some kind of old eastern block nation gun rebadged as a Springfield?

Mine double fires every single pull of the trigger.

I had recently put a new spring kit in it and assumed I had done something wrong (still possible). I tested 18 rounds and had 9 double fires. I went to XDtalk for advice. I hope that they will still accept mine even though it has aftermarket springs in it.
