Proper Grip Screws for S&W PC 4.25” 1911...

2 Attachment(s)
I decided to remove the aforementioned 1911 PC from the safe (photo on right). The pistol is great , but I don’t like the original orange and black wooden grips as I find them to be “too thick and without texture”.

I replaced them with some standard VZ grips that I had removed from a bobtail 4.25” Dan Wesson Valor.

However, The slim VZ grips don’t fit securely because of the bushing Length required for the original Thicker orange and black grips.

My question to the Those more worldly than I is, “what is the correct bushing type and screw lengths required and where would you recommend that I purchase it?”

As always, Thank you for any and all insight provided. it’s the most graciously appreciated.

VZ's website or Brownells? I enjoy purchasing from Brownells as they will stand behind their products. In the past I really enjoyed having purchased multiple sets of grips from VZ grip as Keith always treated me well and would always give me a military discount.

I called VZ today, and they acted like I was crazy for even bothering to ask for Keith as he left last week for good and they didn't seem to be to happy to hear from me (asking for him).....forget about a military discount LOL....

Would you recommend O-Rings for your Grip screws? To the best of my knowledge, do you think it would be a universal bushing with whichever screws i choose?

I'm hoping to avoid having to purchase the wrong the

Thank you!

Not a really precise answer your question/situation, but if I were looking to replace/change/upgrade anything related to grip bushings, screws, O-rings, I'd start by going to the Challis website. http://www.challisgrips.com/c/18-Bus...cessories.aspx

Great people (and obviously great products) to know and do business with.

Challis has become the gold standard for grip hardware...and some cool get out/stay out of trouble tools.

I agree that Challis grip hardware is, with out a doubt, the best solution to grip bushing and screw needs. If you have questions they will answer them prior to doing the replacement and getting derailed.
Many custom shops and top smiths use these parts in their builds.

Donít know how the VZ grips match up with Strike products so this page may not help the OP.

Another vote for Challis. They are the best, hands down.

This was great! Thank you! The pistol came with Standard bushings and screws and I purchased from Brownells the slim bushings and screws and the Chalis tool to remove bushings....THAT IS TOOL IS INDISPENSABLE!!

HOWEVER, I as able to get the VZ grips on there nice and snug BUT.....NOW WHAT? the safety will not engage because the grip Is SEEMINGLY tightened down too much onto the safety (at least thats what it seams)....

I've never had this happen before so maybe someone has valuable professional insight they could provide....

Additionally, NOTE that on the right side of the safety an EXPOSED part of the frame has suddenly appeared!!! WHAT THE HECK DID I DO WRONG?

THANK YOU TO ALL THE FINE EXPERIENCED PEOPLE HERE THAT GO OUT OF THERE WAY TO ASSIST us AVERAGE 1911 HACKERS....:rock:

I'm the furthest thing from a professional so take this with a grain of salt, I'm guessing you are trying to put the Valor grips on which are not designed for an ambi safety. My Valor had just a one sided safety. Look on the back side of the right hand grip....is there a cutout (notch) for the ambi safety? If not, there is your problem.

I only have one 1911 with ambi-safety, the part showing appears on my gun as well.......sure it hasn't always shown?

Hope that helps!

That is most likely the issue.
