Staccato P DUO going back light strikes

After waiting 3 months to get it, and waiting thanks to Covid-19 to fire it, finally hit the range to dial in the red dot. Three light strikes in the first mag. Second time worked.

Armorer at the range looked at it and said it may be the hammer spring. Called STI, uhhhh, Staccato they recommended filing out a warranty form. Got the email and return label next day. Was a bit surprised, thought the response would be “put another 300 down the pipe, then get back to us.”

So far have been happy with the response and the CS folks have been very nice. The only PITA I have is I had to travel to the UPS hub. The local store wouldn’t take it. Was told to bring ID and gun license. Brought my passport and CCL. Told the lady there it was a firearm, in the Staccato bag. She asked if there was ammo in the bag? Nope. Ok slid it in the box and on its way. Just in time to read about the gun thefts at UPS.

Hasn’t soured me on Staccato, stuff happens, and they’re taking care of it. Just wanted to take it to the cabin this weekend. Anyone else have light strikes or other issues.

Just curious- why not replace the OEM hammer spring with a heavier one? It would have resolved your problem and you could still be shooting your Staccato. They aren’t going to turn back around to you in days you know.

With a new gun, light primer strikes are often caused by the slide failing to move completely into battery. This in turn, is often caused by a tight chamber. It could also be interference between the lower barrel lug and slide stop pin, but that would be noticeable while manually cycling the slide.

Springs don't change tension from shot to shot. If any primer has a proper hit at the first firing, the spring is good.

I did consider that. But, for what I have into it, and with only one mag down the pipe, I didn’t want to jeopardize the warranty. Plus, I have plenty of others to shoot.

Update. Took it to the UPS hub at 4 pm yesterday. Just got an email, it’s received and in the que.

FWIW. When I had to send my Sig 226 Legion back. I had to pay for packing the gun, wasn’t much around $13 if I recall. Turnaround was about 3 weeks, not to bad, but they never explained what was wrong or what they fixed (trigger locked). Works fine now.

STI, err, Staccato paid for everything. Not a big deal, but a nice touch.

How many rounds did you put through it before you sent it back?

I just hit 1k on mine, haven’t had any issues.

Around 20 or 30. I was willing to shoot it more and try other ammo, but Staccato said to send it back.

Ok I got her back today. Mailed out on 7/22, back in grubby little hand on 8/5. Ok with the turnaround time, communication was good (calls and emails). The problem “replace firing pin stop.” Happy with how it was resolved.

I add Dawson extended firing pins to mine as well, just for a little insurance policy.

Have you taken it out yet since getting it back?
