Any DW owners have Nighthawks?

Thinking about getting a Valor an an aaddition to the fleet. As a comparison any of you guys have Nighthaawks or Wilson Combats and how do they compare?

glock2740 10-30-2011 07:22 PM

I have DW's, Wilson's and a NH. The DW's are the best gun for the buck, but ARE NOT of the quality of Wilson or Nighthawk.

I have 2 DWs (Vbob and Guardian) and a Nighthawk Talon, I couldn't have said it any better than glock2740. DW is an excellent value, especially the Valor line which more than holds it's own with any manufacturer in terms of accuracy. But that said, I know I'm not going to win any friends here in the DW forum by saying this, they are NOT in the same league as Wilson or Nighthawk. But that doesn't bother most because WC and NHC cost nearly twice as much and in some cases eg. WC Supergrade, much more than that. Whether they are worth it depends on the individual. If you want to add to your collection I'd say you wouldn't go wrong buying a Valor.

I like my valor way more than my guardian. I think it is the alloy frame I dont really like. Glock 2740
where did you get the grips on the dw's

They're VZ Operators.

Apples and oranges. I love my DW's and my Nighthawks. The Nighthawks are in another class. By the same token I carry a Severns Dan Wesson.

These threads come up ofter all across the boards. Some people seem to feel a need to justify their expensive guns by declaring them "miles above" the rest. I HAVE owned a Wilson CQB, a Nighthawk bobtail Talon, a Baer TRP commanche, and a Brown Special Forces. I DO own a black Vbob. I'm sure there are differances an expert could tell us about, and all were fine guns. But for ME, There is not a large drop off between any of them, and I would put the DW against any out there in real life, EDC situations. YMMV.

sig2009 10-31-2011 08:56 AM

I own a Valor,CBOB and a Nighthawk GRP. I bought the DW'S because I got a great deal on them. About $500 below retail cost. But for the retail price of a new Valor you are now in Les Baer territory. That is my next purchase. I love my DW'S but for accuracy the Nighthawk GRP is hands down more accurate than the DW"S. The Nighthawk I purchased slightly used from a friend. Retails for $2600. I payed half of that so it was a no brainer.

anchor44 10-31-2011 10:30 AM

I had a Nighthawk custom Talon and it was a very nice gun but I never really felt about it the way I did other high end 1911's. I sold it after only 500 rounds.

I have a Wilson Combat CQB Elite that I really like, I have Baers, Browns and others that are very nice guns.

That said, I still think The DW's are the best gun that a $1500 bill can buy.

Funny thing, our experiences and thoughts are the same.

Once you get above the DW price point, you reach the point of seriously diminishing returns. As far as quality 1911's go, DW is the best bang for the buck.

Bald1 11-01-2011 06:03 PM

I always find it interesting that folks are want to compare Wilsons, Baers, Browns, and Nighthawks to Dan Wessons footstomping that they're better than DWs. Mmmmmmm...... insecure perhaps? needing to justify something? Mmmmmm....

I look at it this way. I have a Valor and a CBOB that I love. Great for everyday shooting or carrying. But on the other hand I have begun to shoot quite a lot at 25 yards and I can tell you that the NH GRP outshoots the DW. In fact I have a LB Premier with the 1 1/2" guarantee on order for just that purpose.

larry1964 11-01-2011 07:38 PM

dw

have 2 dw in 10mm and 45 and had the nh predator really good but for the money nothing beats the dan wesson can hang with any one of them

atl350z 11-01-2011 07:58 PM

I have a CCO, NHC T3, and several Browns. While I love my CCO, I brought it for what it is, a reasonably priced, reliable 1911. I don't understand the comparisons to the higher end guns. I hope that people buy DW's because they want DW's. If you want a Nighthawk and buy a DW, you will still want a Nighthawk. If money is a concern, buy a Brown. They are priced in between the two. Personally, I feel that they make some of the best guns in the business.

Any customs or semi customs in your "inventory" sig line.

Not in mine. I don't like gun "inventories" and the only "semi-custom" (no such thing) I still have is on Baer highly worked by Harrsion.

OnTarget1911 11-01-2011 08:23 PM

Then you do

Have something to compare to.

Jess

HAIL CAESAR 11-01-2011 08:39 PM

Yeap.

I've owned or seen a lot every "semi-custom" (no such thing) except Volkmann.

If I still had all of them the FIRST one I would sell is the NH. Actually the Fusion would be before a High Point.

Next would be WC, then Brown, GC, and finally Baer. Although the GC and Baer might be switched.

HAIL CAESAR 11-01-2011 08:40 PM

But that is just personal preference.

I have quite a few high end 1911's and my DW Guardian may not be the most accurate 1911 I own, and it damn sure better not be..., but it is one of the most accurate 1911's I shoot. My CCO is a real shooter too. ;)

Jess,

At 64 I have had or have shot just about every make of 1911 out there. So yeah I have a basis for comparison and I've kept what I wanted too. BTW none of these are "pure stock."
