You own you would go to if SHTF. Discounting reliability, I don't own any guns that aren't reliable. I'm thinking my single six. 6 shots of .22 out of a pistol is not going to accomplish much. Great gun for plinking but way to many other options. If I limit my choice to centerfire, probably my P64. Again, capacity would be the issue plus slow mag changes with the euro style mag release. Plus its only good for very short range with the tiny little sights. Rifle, I'd leave the mosin nagant in The safe. To heavy to carry around, ammo hard to find and I can't hit squat with it. Big heavy tough round though.
Actually with all things considered. I could likely do pretty well with some of my single shots. With the terrain around here and my knowledge of it. I would not dismiss it entirely.
If I can smoke you 500 yards + away from me, that M forgery might not do you all that much good. Just sayin.

Very nice wood on those rifles. Me like! I like carbines for practical purposes, but outside of urban terrain a rifle will always do the job MUCH better.
I would have to lean towards my GSG 1911 22lr or Ruger 22/45 and the screw on barrel extender. I can carry 500 rounds of ammo easily. It is a super quiet covert weapon as to not draw attention to myself or my location and can get the job done 90% of the time. The other 10% are covered with a Glock 19/17/34 and a 223 AR15.
Last gun I bought? Used Ruger 10/22 I snagged for $160 bucks. Not my 1st choice for SHTF but livable I suppose.
Planned SHTF weapons, 14.5 BCM Ar build and my SHTF Browning Hi Power 9mm, maybe a Glock 19 or Berretta M9 as a 2nd pistol just because parts and mags will be easier to find a few years into SHTF
Probably Desert Eagle .50. It's the most impractical gun I own because of the weight and would be the last thing I would bug out with for that same reason. It weighs almost as much as a lightweight carbine.
But it's just so damn cool!
In a zombie apocalypse movie of course it would be my first choice. And I'd be one handing it like a boss.
Here's what happened in Eastern Europe after the Nazis were defeated.
After the Red Army took what they wanted,
armed gangs of hooligans went about prowling.
There was little police in large cities and none in the countryside, and no courts or criminal justice system.
NGOs like the YMCA and churches were the only social orders that were operational.
Firearms were handy for food gathering and as a last ditch defense against murderers/rapists/and other no-goodniks which presented an immediate and serious threat.
People made due with what they had and found strength in their faith, families and vocational guilds.
Nobody successfully "took on" the Red Army any more than they could the Nazis (other than the marquis) and hooligans were left to take what they wanted unless it offended moral sensibilities.
I know this from personal interviews conducted with survivors from that era.
I'm psychically handicapped and old. IF the SHTF I'm staying put and will rely on .45 1911, 12 gauge Coach double barrel and my trusty old M-1 Garand. Not exotic but each very reliable and each very lethal.
If I read the OP correctly it's about the absolute last gun we would grab for SHTF. Not the first, but the gun you would only reach for if there was NOTHING else available.
I'd probably not be grabbing the H&R single shot .410 unless there was nothing left. Probably not the original company Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special. Great gun, but limited ammo on hand for it and not much chance of finding any in post fan. Plus until I loctite that one screw it starts to hang up one the screw squirms a little.
I'd grab the S&W M&P Bodyguard .380 before one of those. And it's way down on the post fan grab list for anything more than a hideout gun.
The last things I'd grab would be my NAA 22 mag, Ruger Wrangler, or Heritage Rough Rider. The first things I'd grab would be my P229 and probably my 10/22. I'd try to grab an AR too if I could.
New Orleans Ace -- Black Powder pistol. Sill an unfinished kit, a gift from several years before packing in a box now still unopened in preparation for my move into my current home purchased on 9/11/01!
BTW, the NAA .22LR/WMR MINI might actually come along BEFORE the Beretta 21a -- at least I can hit the broad side of the barn with it!
