Staccato-P

Just picked one up this weekend after reading more about 2011s. Real nice gun with excellent fit and finish. One of the tightest 1911s I have handled. I would put it right up there with the Dan Wesson I had. What really impressed me about this gun was how well it fit my hand. You can get real high up on the gun. Went to the range yesterday and I have to say this is a great shooter. I have owned many 9mms and this is the softest shooting one I own now. It does shoot flatter than any other gun I own. The "recoil master" is not marketing hype. When I shot this gun back to back with my Glock 19 the difference was very noticeable. The trigger is as good as any other high end 1911 I have handled or shot. Shot about 250 rounds of range grade ammo and had the slide fail to lock back twice but other then that it was reliable. I had read that some have had issues with STI quality and reliability and all I can say is that this gun is awesome and I will be buying more STIs.

Nice to hear. I made the switch to a 5.0 tactical a while back and have been eyeing the Staccato-P now. That and a DVC. This is getting expensive!

I shot mine for the first time Wednesday. I couldn't be happier with it. We have a bunch of them at the shop. Wish I could keep them all. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5fc5bb424e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...af15016608.jpg

Those P’s look so much better with the old style texture grip rather than the newer style. I really wish I waited before I bought my 4.0 Tactical. 3 months after I picked my Tac, news of the P started leaking out...

The Tactical is very nice.

I agree with the grip texture. Now is a good time to get the tree bark for free before the grip change and the hand done tree bark is an upgrade.

I’m happy with the Tactical. It seems like the P was a replacement for the Tac.. same features, same price point, just different aesthetics. Oh, and the HOST gen 2 cut vs gen 1.

I was wondering about the new grip style and if I would like it, but haven't seen one yet. I just ordered a DVC-L and they sent a DVC Limited instead, decided to keep it because all my other STI's have either the DVC or Costa grips and I knew I would like them. Only thing missing is the cool laser flag.

STI 2011 new grip texture.....

I have never had an issue with the older polymer grips, and simply added some black "skateboard tape" around the main gripping portion of the grip.....and it lasts a long time.....I have never had an issue with my grip slipping or moving when shooting my STI 2011 guns with either hot or mild loads.....in any type of weather.

I know a shooter that showed me is new STI 2011 textured grip he had replaced....I asked him what he was going to do with his older polymer grip.....he sold it to me for $50....and now I have the necessary parts to build myself another STI 2011.....which I may make as a USPSA Open gun to shoot 9mm Major....

I have the Costa Carry Comp. I have no idea why, but at first I felt the grip was awesome as far as the friction it created with the hand...But after some time and several shoots I found the gun started moving in my hand on long strings of fire. I tried skate tape on the parts of the grip which matter most, and it worked well, but wouldn't stay on long. So I switched to the rubber type grip tape and all is well, grippe stays on very well because it is more malleable than skate and gets in those many little pockets on the sti-ccc grip.

I just picked one up from Dan at BBP. Great customer service and an amazing firearm.

GUNSnHOGS 05-17-2019 02:24 PM

My Son and I both bought 9mm Stac Ps from Dan at BBP. Excellent Customer Service; and the pistols are awesome! Fit/Finish are excellent, and has functioned perfectly with all ammo I have tried to date!

Highly recommended!

I got one of the last old model Tacticals HOSTs, but it's basically the same thing as the Staccato P, from Dan @BBP. Dan is the best!

So I've always wondered how everyone determines what a "flat shooting gun" is in their mind, especially in a handgun, and at what distances they've made this assumpion.

I love my STI and it does seem to have less recoil and comes back on target quicker, but I'm not sure I can say this definitely and if it's because of the Recoil Master or whether it's all in my head.

Just got one, been out with it a few times. Best shooter I have, fits perfect in the hand.

As Iceguy says you can grip way high up on the gun, a very good thing. However, the first time out the slide would not rack back after the last shot intermittently. No pattern with ammo, mag, anything. Finally noticed because of the high grip I sometimes had the thumb of my support hand touching the slide release. Dropped the thumb down a bit and 100% perfect. Just mention in case someone else is as dumb as me.

pnut 06-22-2019 01:44 PM

UpperMW, I had a similar problem with my Tactical, but it wasn’t caused by my grip. Turned out that the detent on the slide release was holding too strong, so I elongated it with a little file work. Problem solved!

GUNSnHOGS 06-22-2019 04:30 PM

Love the accuracy!

My Stac P seems to like the heavier bullets....

Chowser 06-22-2019 04:55 PM

Just ordered a P with three extra mags through their MIL/LE program. I have plenty of 125/147fmj on hand. Ordered a bunch of Ranger 147 and 127+P+ to run through it as well.

That's pretty good for heavy bullets, mine all seem to like 115's.
Oh, can you explain the powder burns on the target :)

Sweet looking shooter!

The owner of my range showed me a new Dan Wesson, then let me shoot a STI Tactical.
I wanter a commander size, with no magwell, so I ordered a DVC Carry.
He was personal friends with the sales head, and we are only 20 miles away from STI, so I was shooting it in 48 hours. Both STI and my LGS threw in a free magazine.

It cost $ 2,800 plus tax, but it was my 70th birthday present.

Congratulations!

Always appreciate a "Senior" review! ;)

Awesome Trace! So is the Texas Rangers edition available to the public?

Chowser 07-06-2019 05:39 AM

Congrats! That’s one nice looking pistol!

It's just a Stacatto with some laser engraving. The final design is supposed to have a couple less rear serrations to make room for ranger badges on the rear of the slide. I'm looking forward to seeing the hard chrome version...

As far as it being available to non-rangers, that would be up to STI. They are in the business of selling guns/making money!!

Descartian 07-06-2019 11:49 AM

Do the Rangers fall under the support umbrella of the 100 club? If so itís be a nice partnership with STI, a certain amount of $ going towards the 100 club to benefit law enforcement. Iíd buy one.
