My First 1911's

My local FFL is in bad health and decided to start turning firearms into spendable money. He knew I was looking an inexpensive 1911 and he let me know he had a pair of Ruger SR1911's; a standard 5" and a Commander 4.25".
I don't know what wholesale is but he got really close so I bought them both!!

I have a SR1911 5" and it has been good. No problems and accurate.

Great entry into the 1911 world. Have fun!

I bet you will like them. I bought a 5 inch at a big sale a LGS had back in the fall of 2012. Then in the spring of 2013 another LGS had one of the Commanders.

So, a serious question to the two shooters who just bought both a 5 inch and commander size 1911. If push absolutely came to shove and you had to sell one or the other, which one would you keep?

IF push came to shove I would keep the commander. It just feels and looks better than the original 5" 1911 JMB designed for the military. JMHO It is only .75 inches shorter.

I have both the fullsize and commander size SR1911’s. If I had to keep just one it would be the full size.

So far responses are 50/50, and that doesn't surprise me. If a person has a 1911 in their preferred caliber with the preferred format, either fixed sights vs adjustable target sights, either pistol will serve nicely. Anyway this has been my experience also.

First of all, I love the platform. In my humble opinion of the 1911 universe (and I have everything from a RIA to a Les Baer Concept IV) the Ruger 1911 is hands down the best value in 1911's. Before everyone has a heart attack...you notice I didn't say it was the best but in terms of VALUE I believe it to be absolutely the best and not bad looking
either !
