Looking for opinions Koenig speed hammer
Not able to find much on this hammer that is being used on the PC1911, other than it "Rings" when it strikes the pin. Anyone have any more useful info? Why is speed a factor? Quicker shots? I would think a heavier hammer would strike the pin better. How well do they hold up? Anyone here use one?
Any takers? :hrm:

I don't have one myself so I can only attemt to answer your question regarding speed and weight of the hammer. Increasing lock time, the time it takes the hammer to hit the firing pin, is consider good in competition as it will make your splits faster and a lighter hammer is less likely to disturb the pistol when the hammer falls. It is somewhat like the Colt or Ruger Single Action Revolver having a hammer that hits the frame so hard that it tends to cause the whole pistol to move. I think only a Grandmaster in IPSC would likely notice the difference more than us mere mortals. :)

The idea for light hammers was to speed up the lock time and you can also get and maintain lighter trigger jobs on pistols..

as for speed..yes it seems faster, but I have no way to measure one from a stock steel hammer..the speed is to get the hammer to fall faster to allow less time for the sights to move while the shot is being fired.
the two I have..one is set at 1.75 pounds and has been there for two years..the other is set at 2 pounds and so far is good..but I have only had it on this gun for a very short time..

besides all that..it is a good hammer and I have been happy with them..
