Thoughts on Beretta 92G-SD?
I have never thought I would be interested in a Beretta since they displaced my beloved 1911 while I was in the Marine Corps. However I looked at one in a gun shop the other day and.,,.kinda liked it. It was a Vertec Inox and seemed to have a btter and shorter trigger pull than the 92fs. I really liked the shape of the trigger also. So I'm looking at the Beretta web site and the 92G-SD catches my eye. Anyone have one of these? What is someone like me who has high end 1911's, mulitple Glocks and Sigs going to think about a Beretta? How accurate is it? I have read 2-3 inches at 25 yards which won't do it for me. Any comments would be appreciated. I looked on the Beretta forum but didn't see much there. In fact the forum in general was kind of not very interesting.

Beretta Inox
The Beretta is not a bad pistol, I have a 92FS that I bought when my Department allowed us to carry semi-auto. I can guarantee it won't have the accuracy of any of your 1911's unless you want to spend some money on the gun. Look at it this way 9mm ammo is cheap and plentiful, you could burn up buckets of the stuff trying to obtain a satisfactory target.
I had a Jarvis barrel with a bushing on the end of the barrel put on my Beretta, tightened up the accuracy quite a bit, that bad boy came back with the new barrel and the slide was tight just like a real gun. Don't try and tell me the old 1911's Marine Corp issue were as tight and nice shooting as a TRS. Beretta lousey customer service. Tang

The Marine Corps 1911's were beat up really bad. But they worked and we loved them except when we were bitching about them.

Quality wise...not a bad pistol, but chunkier than a 9mm should be and the grip is too thick. The double action trigger is too long and stagey. I owned one long ago...sold it for my Belgian Hi-Power and don't miss it a bit.
There are about 2-3 9mms that I think are worth owning, the Hi-Power, the Springfield XD-9, the CZ-75 and the Sig 226. Handle and shoot these before buying a Beretta...they might surprise you. I used to own several 9mms and the only 9mm I have kept was the Hi-Power. The others are too different from the 1911s I shoot most of the time and they're harder to transition from. If the 92 Berettas appeal to you and feel comfortable, go for it...personally, I found it too chunky and the grip does not fit my hand. - Bimmercat
