Best Kimber Value in 5" (custom) model

What in your opinion is the the best value in Kimbers full size line-up? Which gun offers you the most for the least.

I think the "value" stops at around $950 street price in the Kimber line. I voted for the tle II because the only reason i would get a 5" model is for home protection and range-use, that means I don't need to have a LW frame. For carry; I would vote for the cdp line. For me - they are the ultimate carryguns (regardless of brand - i could spend $200 to replace all the MIM parts & it still would be cheaper then semi-custom brands) & available in sizes for every circumstances (I am looking to get an Ultra CDP this weekend ).

I own a eclipse pro but think it is technically the same model as the TLE except for the finish.

I don't know about "the most for the least," but I'm very satisfied with my TLE/RL II. It's the ultimate "house gun" with its M3X tactical light attached and loaded with 230 gr. Ranger T JHPs.

At least where I live, the Team Match costs only a hundred and some change more than the TLE. I think the value of the TM is slightly better...

Aren't they all really the same pistol with different finish and a few options? I've been sucked into believing that I needed a Gold Combat. I paid nearly $1500 for it and I couldn't tell the difference between my Custom model. From now on I'm buying the parts:

Ambi safety $21.00
S&A mag-well $55.00
Meprolites $65.00
and sending my custom back to Kimber for front strap checkering $120.00

By the time it's done I have about $850 in a pistol with all of the bells and whistles I want. If I want it to shoot better I'll have a Kart Barrel fit and still have way less than $1100 in it.

Sure, I'll not get all of my investment back but I lost over $600 when I sold my Gold Combat so I think it all pretty much equals out.

I voted for the stock Custom. If you want checkering on your gun, then I would say go for the TLE, but I don't care for front strap checkering so for me the Custom is my choice.

The Custom is absolutely the best value. All Kimbers are essentially the same, any differences, except for frame material, are what you can see.

The Custom gets the same frame and slide, the same internal components, same workmanship, and runs just as good as the highest priced models.

I voted for the TLE. Mine cost me $750 (nib). It would be tough to find another gun with night sights and a checkered front grip for under $900 or more.

Great price. I go mine through Bachman's, without tax and shipped to local gun dealer. Mine was only the stainless custom, no night sights or other features. It cost $660 over one year ago. Have the prices gone down?

I have two Custom II's

but voted for the TLE. If they would have been making TLE's back when I bought my Custom's I would have bought two of those. The checkering and night sights are well worth the extra $. You can't add either of those options for the same difference as buying them already on, and they are options I would like to have.

I agree with the statement that the only difference in a Custom,, Royal, Eclipse, etc is the finish. If you like flashy pistols the money may be worth the 'bling' factor, but I buy mine to shoot. The basic Kimbers do that as well, if not better then any factory gun out there.

Hello Everybody

I voted for the Custom. I have one and feel it offers the greatest return. I am so glad I bought it as my first handgun. Now I want more!
