question about mossberg 590

About a year ago, my wife came across a Mossberg 590 while i was looking at other things at teh gunshop. due to various things she fell in love with this gun. B/C this is the first gun she has ever taken a direct and independent interest in I have decided i'm going to get her one. I HAVE detremined though that it will be a 590A1 (the all metal triger group and safety). problem and my question come in b/c the A1 is not offered with a heat shield (that i can find) and she wants the HS (asthetics?) my gunsmith has offered to mount one on any gun we choose in the same manner as mossberg does. So in truth whether we get that done when i get this gun depends on the answers to my following question....

Is the heat sheild on these guns, when mounted in the same manner as the factory installed versions, removeable so the underlying(sp?) barrel can be wiped from time to time?? we live in a very humid region so if this is not the case a Heatshield would become nothing more than a rust trap.

i know that the front of the shield is held in place by what looks to be allen screws in a mounting block. but what of the rear edge is it simply held down by the mating of the receiver and barrel or is it welded on?

well there's my question, i better back off before i ramble TOO much

thank you for any information

the heat shield is removable as long as the 590 doesn't have ghost ring sights - ps you can use spray silicone or clp to keep the rust down - have had my a1 for 4 yrs now and love it
