Seecamp DA Conversion?
I know the quote about "eloquent solution to...." but I am wanting to convert a couple 1911's to the Seecamp double action. Can anyone direct me to parts for such or an old kit that is still in a drawer? I am a willing buyer but Seecamp no longer sells it. Thanks, Larry

Essex did/does sell most or all of the Seecamp components, but they won't have the enlarged trigger guard, or what I would assume to be directions for the complicated machining operations. Essex ended up with the remaining stock of parts from the O.D.I. Viking, which was a cast stainless pistol with the Seecamp lockwork. The frame had all the openings, for the trigger, drawbar, etc., cast right in. I built a gun on a O.D.I. frame, and I got a bunch of spare pins, springs, etc. from Essex.

Thank you........
RickB,
Great information, thanks, I will check with Essex for availability. There was a bare ODI Viking slide for sale on one of the gun auctions last week, no bidders. I'm familar with the Seecamp conversion but never handled a Viking. Larry |

The Viking build-up was my first home gunsmithing project. It was a lot of work, but I ended up with a one-of-a-kind. I'm no fan of DA autos in general, and the Seecamp conversion seems to be an answer in search of a question, but it does give you all the good qualities of the 1911 in a DA auto, if that's important.
A friend of mine has a full-house Seecamp Commander, with not only the DA conversion, but adjustable sights, loaded-chamber indicator, one-piece backstrap/beavertail, and the patented telescoping recoil assembly. Very interesting gun.

I called Essex on Monday and today but got voice mail and no call back. I going to call earlier in the day tomorrow.
I agree with with you as I'm not a DA fan in auto's, my first 45 was a early Sig 220 in the form of a BDA and I quickly found favor in the 1911. Recently I acquired a customized Combat Commander with the Seecamp Conversion and really enjoy it. Single action is in no way limited and since I'm a lefty not having an additional side safety to get snagged, etc, is a plus. I've got a few lonely 1911's that are begging for attention....................Larry |
